One look from Winter that will be continuing into Spring is the metallic one. There is no way you will look heavy or old-fashioned if you wear the modern metallic for Spring that are cut so they look very contemporary. In fact many of the metallic showcased on the runways this Spring were made for casual wear and not to wear out clubbing, to a wedding or a ball.
Mirror shine metallics that are made out of fabrics that look like oil slicks will be very popular this Spring. One of the most popular looks on the runway was the just above the knee metallic skirt without a seamed waist that hip designer Jonathan Saunders sent down runways. This type silver skirt was augmented with sheer tops in gold, mesh black or peachy flesh tones.
Metallic brocades were also shown on the runway. Behnaz Sarafpour showed white and gold brocade camisole tops over sheer eyelet tops also threaded with golden and silver threads. Roccobarocco showed full brocaded gold suits skirt suits with lace insetting and a mandarin fifties type collar.
Burberry Prorosum showed pastel metallic coat dresses on the run way with the seam of the brocade running laterally. The effect of this type of gleam is very futuristic with Velcro closings all the way down the front as well as belts and cuff with huge straps and buckles.
Textured metallics are also a big trend. Roccobarocco has created a two-piece pajama style suit in aqua and white metallic checks that is perfect for going to an art gallery in or entertaining at home. This look is very “Oleg Cassini”; like something Jacqueline Onassis would wear.
Yet another trend is “treated tweed”. This is Tweed cloth that has been covered with an effervescent shine. The result is that the tweed shows blues, golds, platinums and silvers in the light. Badgely Mischka has made a textured metallic peplum skirt. A similar trend is towards metallic treated real or fake reptile skins. Reed Krakoff did a skirt completely in silver that he showed a model wearing with a contrasting sheer flesh-toned top.
Emporio Armani showed a lot of pale gold items in his Spring collection including a beautiful gold tennis dress. In fact a lot of the gold dresses on the runways in general tended to be mini-dresses while the metallic skirts tended to be knee-length.
